Height & PET/PST requirement — uniformed posts

Height, chest and running standards apply only to uniformed and field posts — not to clerical, technical or banking exams. Here's what each exam meribari tracks actually asks for.

General-category figures are the base standard the medical board checks first; ST candidates get a separate, usually lower, standard where the notification states one. Every number below is read from the exam's own verified record — check the exam's page for regional relaxations (Garhwali, Assamese, Gorkha, North-Eastern states) not shown in this summary table.

Frequently asked

What is the height requirement for police and other uniformed government posts?

It varies by exam, gender and category — there is no single police height requirement. Per the records tracked here: SSC GD asks for 170 cm (male) / 157 cm (female); UP Constable asks for 168 cm (male) / 152 cm (female); UP SI asks for 168 cm (male) / 152 cm (female); SSC MTS asks for 157.5 cm (male) / 152 cm (female) — Havaldar (CBIC & CBN) posts only — not applicable to MTS posts.

Is there a height relaxation for ST candidates?

Yes, on the exams that state one: SSC GD: male 162.5 cm (general is 170 cm), female 150 cm (general is 157 cm); UP Constable: male 160 cm (general is 168 cm), female 147 cm (general is 152 cm); UP SI: male 160 cm (general is 168 cm), female 147 cm (general is 152 cm); SSC MTS: male 152.5 cm (general is 157.5 cm), female 149.5 cm (general is 152 cm). Other regional relaxations (e.g. for Garhwali, Assamese and Gorkha candidates on SSC MTS/Havaldar) are stated on the exam's own page, not repeated here.

What is PET/PST (Physical Efficiency Test / Physical Standard Test)?

PST checks height, chest (for men) and weight against the fixed minimums shown above; PET is a timed run (or walk) that's qualifying — pass or fail, not scored toward merit. On the exams tracked here: SSC GD — male 5000 m in 24:00 min, female 1600 m in 8:30 min; UP Constable — male 4800 m in 25:00 min, female 2400 m in 14:00 min; UP SI — male 4800 m in 28:00 min, female 2400 m in 16:00 min; SSC MTS — male 1600 m in 15:00 min, female 1000 m in 20:00 min.

Which exams on meribari have a physical standard?

4 of the exams meribari tracks carry a physical standard: SSC GD, UP Constable, UP SI, SSC MTS. The rest (bank and most SSC/Railway clerical and technical posts) have no height, chest or running requirement.
